Here's a recipe for Homemade Laundry Soap. It is super easy, super cheap and works just as well as those high priced laundry soaps. It's just another step toward simplicity for me and my family. All the ingredients can be found in the laundry aisle and each batch (which can wash up to 120 loads) costs less than $2.
Recipe
2/3 of a bar of laundry soap or homemade soap
1 cup of Washing Soda (not to be confused with Baking Soda)
1 Cup of Borax
You will need a large bucket to hold your detergent, for example I used a large plastic pail that my kitty litter came in (washed out of course).

Shred the soap into small pieces and place in a sauce pan. Add four cups of water and turn on the heat to melt the soap. Continue to stir until soap is melted. Then add Washing Soda and Borax. Mix until dissolved and remove from heat.

Measure 8 cups of hot water into your bucket and add your detergent. Stir. Add another 12 cups and mix. Let the solution sit for 24 hours before using. Should form a liquid gel and maybe a bit clumpy but that's normal. Use 1/2 cup for each load.
Note you will not get lots of bubbles with this detergent but the suds you see in commercial detergents are from an added agent that does not aid in the cleaning of clothes, it is only there to please the consumer.
I use an old pot and old utensils that I keep separate from my regular kitchenware but these items clean up pretty well (and easily) after use so if you don't have an extra pot, it will be okay.
It took me less than 20 minutes. We wash about 10 loads of laundry a week, so I shouldn't have to make this again for three months. It's a great thing!

I do this too! Actually, I don't heat it up- I just use the dry ingredients. It is awesome! Thanks for sharing. (You can use baking soda in place of washing soda- I have been at least!)
I have never seen the no-cook version, Taryn. Can you post the ratios you use of the no-cook version, I'd like to know in case I run out and need to whip up a batch on the fly.
Thanks for reading!
